One of the youngest survivors of the Holocaust and one of the few children to have survived Auschwitz, Tova Friedman was born in the Polish town of Tomashov in 1938, one year before the start of the Shoah. Her story of survival began when her family traveled out of town to celebrate her birthday, escaping the bombs that fell on their neighborhood. After the war, Tova and her mother were reunited with her father. Together, the family arrived in the US in 1950, where Tova started her studies and life in her new home.

Tova went on to have a career in psychotherapy and recently retired as Executive Director of Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties. Tova has four children and five grandchildren and spends much of her time speaking about her experiences during the Holocaust.

Dr. Na´ama Shik is Director of the Internet Department at the International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. She is responsible for Yad Vashem’s on-line educational materials, including on-line courses, the film project “Witnesses and Education,” social media, curricula, databases and portals to specialized sub-sites created by her department.

Dr. Shik holds a PhD from The School of History of Tel Aviv University and has published numerous articles focused on the experiences of Jewish women in the Shoah. She is a frequent lecturer at academic and educational conferences in Israel, the United States, Europe and China.
