Who we are:
Established in 1981 by visionary Holocaust survivors, the American Society for Yad Vashem (ASYV) promotes Yad Vashem’s mission of Holocaust education, research, documentation, and commemoration. We engage a broad community of caring individuals to learn about the Holocaust and keep its memory and lessons alive. With the support of our donors, ASYV strengthens the efforts of Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, which was established in 1953 by the Israeli parliament as the Jewish people’s memorial to the murdered six million Jews and to ensure that the voices of the survivors continue to resonate. Together we remember the past and shape the future.

The Western Region office, which services 13 Western States including California, Washington, Arizona Oregon and Nevada among others was established in 2016 to serve as the anchor for ASYV to further its footprint in the West. The purpose is to continue growth and encourage expansion in all aspects of development (annual, capitol designated projects and legacy giving), fostering education and awareness about the unique role that Yad Vashem brings to Holocaust education, remembrance, and commemoration.

The Position:
As a key contributor to regional fundraising, education programs and community outreach, the Development Assistant will provide support by creating and implementing strategies that ensure sustainability and the achievement of organizational goals. Reporting to the Western Regional Director, they will be the primary administrative support, they will assist in all fundraising activities to include, but not be limited to, composing, and editing reports, correspondence, solicitation materials, invitations to cultivation events and memos. The Development Assistant will serve as the first point of contact to telephone callers and office visitors and coordinate with office vendors (IT, mail, supplies, copiers) to ensure and maintain professional office environment. Some travel may be required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • As the main point of contact, manage day to day office services to include copiers, postage machine, telephones, kitchen and reception areas, ID cards/keys; office supply inventory and IT equipment;
  • Manage office mail to receive, sort, scan, and distribute official documents and mail addressed to the office, prepare for postage/shipping outgoing mail and courier packages, and manage inventory of shipping supplies and labels (e.g., FedEx and USPS);
  • Manage the third-party office cleaning vendor and ensure all offices/rooms are safe, clean, stocked with supplies and presentable daily;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local Survivors, volunteers, donors, and community members/organizations.
  • Coordinate educational programs and speaker requests;
  • Provide administrative support for fundraising and donor development activities, which includes tracking donations, maintaining the current database of prospects, writing correspondence, etc.;
  • Input data concerning fundraising events, leadership, volunteers, and donors; Retrieve information from the database for reports as required;
  • Conduct donor research to identify prospects and support cultivation efforts;
  • Support and organize logistics for events/parlor meetings to promote and successfully engage current donors;
  • Develop and/or edit written correspondence on behalf of team members to include emails, letters, newsletters, invitations, meeting minutes, memos, etc.;
  • As workload allows, develop and steward a small portfolio of individual donors;
  • Manage supervisor’s calendar, travel and expenses, meetings, and team-building activities; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Associates Degree. Bachelor’s degree preferred; and
  • Minimum of 3-5 years administrative support and/or special events experience preferably in a non-profit.
  • Must demonstrate a pleasant professional demeanor at all times with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and courteously with all customers, clients, guests and staff;
  • Successful event management experience from planning through implementation, including management of budgets, resources, staff, and volunteers;
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment;
  • Experience using a CRM system, creating queries and generating reports; DonorPerfect, preferred;
  • Must have excellent writing and verbal communications skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage details, meet fundraising goals, build momentum around events and work in a collaborative and welcoming manner;
  • Ability to create comprehensive and meaningful reports to provide insight into development activities and progress toward goals;
  • Strong technology skills including Microsoft Office (proficiency in creating and manipulating excel workbooks important), Zoom, donor database (Donor Perfect preferred) management, and creation of professional presentations and materials;
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task with attention to detail;
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to meet firm deadlines;
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of information and work with a minimum of direction;
  • Knowledge of and interest in Holocaust history; and
  • Familiarity with the Los Angeles Jewish Community is a plus.

Salary and Benefits
Salary range is $50,000 – 60,000. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, early Fridays, 15 days’ vacation.
